What We're Talking About

Private Capital for SDGs

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 will require investments of about $4 trillion each year. Only $1.5 trillion of that funding requirement is being met by governments, leaving a significant gap for private capital to fill. Stephanie Landers Silva sits down with Arun Asok to uncover how Abt is mobilizing private capital to advance the SDGs and discuss key challenges and opportunities in this space.

Recapping her participation in the World Bank-IMF Meetings in Marrakech, Abt’s Nicole Goldin pens thoughts on the strong ties between macroeconomics and women’s participation. These ties reinforce the need for inclusive and integrated solutions to challenges like inflation and debt, food security and various care.

Performance Evaluation: USAID’s Cooperative Development Program

Abt conducted a performance evaluation of USAID’s Cooperative Development Program (CDP) across 17 countries and multiple sectors. The evaluation assessed how CDP is helping to strengthen hundreds of cooperatives as local democratic institutions that deliver value to their members. The evaluation team found strong results in the area of improved cooperative governance, and there were also improvements in business performance. The evaluation offers recommendations to further strengthen cooperatives for sustainable, locally-led development outcomes.

Empowering Women and Catalyzing Markets to Improve Economic Security and Nutrition

In five years, the USAID-funded Feed the Future Bangladesh Nutrition Activity has engaged young people, increased the social and economic empowerment of women, and improved the nutritional status of more than 660,000 people. We’ve learned a lot about which incentives are most effective in advancing inclusive market-based solutions for better food and nutrition outcomes. We’re honored and excited to continue this great work for another five years. Read more about the project’s highlights and our new focus areas for the years ahead!
