Rwanda’s national strategy seeks to increase the modern contraceptive prevalence rate among married women to 62 percent by 2024. One way to widen access to family planning services is to allow community pharmacies to administer injectable contraceptives. The Abt-led, USAID-funded SHOPS Plus Project facilitated policy change and market strengthening to enable Rwanda’s private sector to reach this goal.
The Abt-led President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) VectorLink project implements indoor residual spraying (IRS) to prevent malaria. Populations such as those in hard-to-reach areas are sometimes left behind. The project strives to identify these populations and strategize ways to reach them.
Through the USAID Feed the Future Bangladesh Nutrition Activity, Abt connects homestead farmerswith the ingredients and guidance they need to grow nutritious crops. To date, we’ve reached more than 20,000 households. The project is helping women like Feroza Begum improve their health and earn income to support their families.
The Government of Ethiopia (GOE) has made impressive strides over the last two decades to strengthen its health system and improve access to services. The Abt-led USAID Health Financing Improvement Program helps the GOE institutionalize ongoing financing reforms that support the country’s goal of universal health coverage.
The project known as Support to the Public Sector Roll-out of DMPA aims to expand contraceptive choices for women to reduce unintended pregnancies. To support the Indian government’s path-breaking policy decision to introduce a new injectable contraceptive, Abt strengthened health facility readiness and improved client support mechanisms, including tele-counselling.
